Maris Pihlap

“The young singer and multi-instrumentalist Maris Pihlap explores the complexities of early adulthood with beautiful candour and vulnerability. Combining electronics, plucked violin, global sounds and layering her warm breathy vocals, Pihlap creates reflective and introspective downtempo songs.”

Maris Pihlap is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Tallinn, Estonia. Her journey started out as a promising folk fiddler, diving deep into Estonian tradition, but an injury put that dream on hold and led her to an alternative path instead. She taught herself to produce, started writing original songs and refining her skills by remixing other artists’ music. Her debut-EP “What Have You Become?” released by TIKS rekords (2021) gained immediate attention, paving the way for a full-length album in May 2022. Both of those albums also brought her nominations at the Estonian Music Awards. In her fantasy world genres or expectations don’t exist. Maris takes the listener for a journey where tradition, modern music theory, and the human experience are effortlessly intertwined into electronic pop productions. Some of the most characteristic features of her music are her dark, yet airy vocals, and the bold minimalistic use of the violin.

Maris is a resident DJ at TIKS, a weekly radio show, record label, and party series. She is also actively working with young local talent, mostly female artists and bands, both as a producer and a recording/mixing engineer. In April 2023 she became the second woman ever to be nominated for Producer of The Year at the Estonian Music Business Awards.
